    How CGPA is calculated (worked example)

    GPA weights each course by its credit units:

    GPA = Σ(grade point × credit units) ÷ Σ(credit units)

    Example — 5.0 scale

    Semester courses: A (3 units), B (2 units), C (4 units), A (1 unit).

    Quality points = (5×3) + (4×2) + (3×4) + (5×1) = 15 + 8 + 12 + 5 = 40.
    Credit units = 3 + 2 + 4 + 1 = 10.
    Semester GPA = 40 ÷ 10 = 4.00.

    Cumulative: previous 40 units at CGPA 3.50 → previous quality points = 3.50 × 40 = 140. Add this semester (40 points over 10 units): total 180 points over 50 units. CGPA = 180 ÷ 50 = 3.60.

    Confirm your institution's rules

    Frequently asked questions

    What's the difference between GPA and CGPA?

    GPA is for a single semester. CGPA is cumulative — it combines all your completed semesters. Use "Include previous record" above to work out a cumulative figure.

    My school uses different grade points — can I still use this?

    Yes. Pick the scale that matches your school (5.0 or 4.0). If your school's exact points differ, confirm them in your student handbook before relying on the result.

    Do you store my results?

    Everything is calculated in your browser. If you choose to, your entries can be saved on your own device only (local storage) so they are there next time — use "Clear saved data" to remove them. Nothing is sent to a server.

    Why is my CGPA different from what I expected?

    Common causes are mixing up grade scales, forgetting to weight by credit units, or entering the wrong previous totals. Check each course's units and grade, and your previous CGPA and units.
